All Four Seasons in One Day

On every road trip you should expect some chaos. We are no exception.

The day started out pretty normal.  Got some breakfast and headed into Phoenix. First,  Starbucks, because #coffee. Then we went to the Phoenix Zoo. My nephew took pictures of every animal he could find,  so I didn't take a ton.  Er I guess I need to figure out how to rotate the pictures.

After the Zoo we headed towards the Grand Canyon. The plan was to stop in Sedona on the way,. Chaos,  however,  had a different plan.

First we got rain. Rain is fine.  I can handle rain. I brought a rain coat. We stopped asking the way to get some food for the 12 year old.

Then, as the rain picked up,  I realized that the detour to Sedona was going to add time to our trip. We had to make it to Tusayan by evening because we had some tickets to pick up. Sedona was not going to be fun because we weren't dressed for cold and wet and it was later in the afternoon. We had already walked a lot in the zoo, and starting a 4 or 5 hour hike when you had another 2 hours to go... yeah no.  So we opted to not turn that way.

Instead,  we took route 17 through Cocomino National Forest.

Oh, did I mention that the rain turned to snow? Snow. Like cars off the road and super slow driving.  I will say that my brother rocked the driving and we survived.

I'm pretty sure the elevation change didn't help. I found a site that captured your elevation and it was over 7,000 as we neared Flagstaff.
We almost bailed at Flagstaff but the weather cleared and we already had reservations - so while we could have stopped and were open to it,  it would have thrown off other plans.

Instead,  we made it to our hotel and to another site to check in.  We got some evening pics of the Grand Canyon too!

I also had to buy a heavier sweatshirt because it's colder today that I was hoping.  I left home for no snow, not more snow. We got a late dinner and then crashed.

More adventures tomorrow!

Denver and Home Again (Days 9 and 10)

Okay, so spoiler alert. I didn't take that many pictures these last few days. Eventually, I can spruce them up, because my nephew took ...
